Présentation
(English below)
De plus il a co-édité les ouvrages collectifs "Researching Emotions in International Relations: Methodological Perspectives on the Emotional Turn" (Palgrave Macmillan 2017) et "Memory Fragmentation from Below and Beyond the State" (Routledge 2023) et "Quantifying International Conflicts: Data on War or Data for War" (Palgrave Macmillan 2025).
Eric Sangar is a tenured Associate Professor of Political Science at Sciences Po Lille and a full member of the research unit CERAPS (University of Lille). He acquired a research habilitation at Sciences Po Paris in 2025 and holds a doctorate in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute in Florence, as well as an MA degree in International Affairs from Sciences Po Paris.
Prior to his arrival in Lille in 2018, he worked in various positions at European research institutions, including as a FNRS research fellow based at the University of Namur (Belgium), as a Research Associate at King's College London as part of the EU project INFOCORE, and as a Fernand Braudel Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institut de Recherche Stratégique de l’Ecole Militaire (IRSEM) in Paris. In his personal research, he is studying the links between collective memory and uses of history in foreign policy and conflict discourses, the role of emotions in the justification of violence, and threat anticipation practices and infrastructures. Eric has published articles in various peer-reviewed journals such as "Political Psychology", "Contemporary Security Policy", or "Security Dialogue". He has also authored several two monographs and co-edited the collective volumes "Researching Emotions in International Relations: Methodological Perspectives on the Emotional Turn" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018), "Memory Fragmentation from Below and Beyond the State (Routledge, 2023) and "Quantifying International Conflicts: Data on War or Data for War" (Palgrave Macmillan 2025). His latest monography, "Germany's Grand Strategy: In Search for Lost Resonance" will be published with Oxford University Press in 2026.In June 2025, I have acquired my "research habilitation" and am therefore qualified to supervise doctoral projects in Political Science.
I would be particularly interested in supervising projects dealing with the interactions between collective memory and foreign policy, military thought, civil-military relations, the role of emotions in international relations, as well as the politics of threat and risk anticipation.
If you have a project idea with a clear research puzzle and a research question please do not hesitate to get in touch.Personal website / Site personnel:
